Abstract:	Im Süden des französischen Massif Centrale wurde am 16. Dezember 2004 das große Viadukt von Millau, eine 2460 m lange Multischrägseilbrücke, dem Verkehr übergeben. Dieses Bauwerk umfaßt sechs Hauptfelder à 342 m Länge sowie zwei Randfelder von jeweils 204 m Länge. Der Stahlüberbau wird aus einer orthotropen Kastenkonstruktion von 27,75 m Breite mit einer maximalen Bauhöhe von 4,20 m gebildet, die wegen der auftretenden Windbelastungen aerodynamisch optimiert wurde. Sieben stählerne Pylone halten über jeweils 2 x 11 Schrägseilbündel diese Deckkonstruktion in einer Höhe bis zu 270 m über dem Fluß Tarn, somit die höchste Brücke der Welt, die mit einer Gesamtbauhöhe von 343 m sogar den Pariser Eiffelturm überragt.
