Abstract:	Konstruktionen aus Stahl und Glas fallen durch ihre Ästhetik und leichte Bauweise auf. Gerade die leichte Bauweise, die durch ein Minimum an Materialeinsatz erreicht wurde und deshalb den Einsatz von Glas als tragendes Bauelement erforderte, bedingte sorgfältige Berechnungs- und Bemessungsüberlegungen nach den Sicherheitskriterien des Bauwesens, da für tragende Glasbauteile solche Bemessungsvorschriften noch nicht existieren. Der Beitrag geht anhand des Beispiels "Glaskunstwerk Kranichflug", einem seilverspannten Flächentragwerk aus Glas und Stahl, auf solche Berechnungs- und Bemessungsansätze ein und gibt einen Ausblick auf zukünftige Sicherheitsvorschriften, mit denen der Status Quo - die Zustimmung im Einzelfall - für tragende Bauteile aus Glas verlassen werden kann.
