Abstract:	Das NordWestZentrum ist eines der größten Einkaufs- und Erlebniszentren in Deutschland. Es wird von sechs Buslinien und einer U-Bahnlinie angefahren und verfügt zusätzlich über 3500 Parkplätze. Erstmals eröffnet im Jahre 1968, wurde das Zentrum in den Jahren 1986 bis 1988 komplett revitalisiert und zu einer modernen Erlebniswelt umgebaut. Mit einer weiteren Großbaumaßnahme in den Jahren 2002 bis 2004 erweiterte sich die Verkaufsfläche nochmals beträchtlich. Im Zusammenhang mit der Maßnahme zwischen 2002 und 2004 mußte auch ein Teil des Bestandes umgebaut und instandgesetzt werden, dies unter laufendem Betrieb. Der Umgang mit der vorhandenen Bausubstanz und der Integration von neuen, leistungsfähigen Tragkonstruktionen in den Bestand stellte für die Tragwerksplanung eine besondere Herausforderung dar.
