Abstract:	Bei Hochwasserereignissen konnte verschiedentlich festgestellt werden, dass Brücken über Wasserläufen den Abfluss behindern und Überschwemmungen angrenzender Gebiete fördern oder verursachen. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden wichtige Grundsätze der konstruktiven Ausbildung von Brücken aus wasserbaulicher Sicht dargestellt, die notwendig sind, um gebrauchstaugliche und dauerhafte Bauwerke zu errichten. Bridges from the viewpoint of a hydraulic engineer During river floods it has often been observed that bridges could obstruct the flow of the water and enhance or cause inundations of the adjacent areas. In this paper some significant principles of the constructional design of bridges are discussed from a hydraulic engineer's viewpoint to ensure the erection of useable and durable structures.
