Abstract:	Eine Reihe von herausragenden Brückenbauwerken sind im Zuge der drei Verbindungen zwischen den japanischen Inseln Honshu und Shikoku entstanden bzw. im Bau. Den Höhepunkt bildet die Akashi-Kaikyo-Brücke, mit 1990m Spannweite der Mittelöffnung die größte Hängebrücke der Welt. Über die Gründungsarbeiten für diese Brücke wird berichtet. Es kamen drei Hauptverfahren zur Anwendung: Baugruben mit tiefen Schlitzwänden und mit verankerten Bohrpfählen für die Widerlager, sowie Schwimmkästen aus Stahl für die Pfeiler. Außerdem wird kurz auf weitere interessante verfahrenstechnische Aspekte eingegangen.
