Abstract: | Herrn Prof. Dr.-Ing. Fatigue assessment of existing steel bridges - discussed on basis of the Franz-Josef-Strauß-Bridge in Passau Due to the introduction of new welding methods and weldable steel grades, a rapid development of new building and construction methods in steel bridge construction took place in the second half of the last century. Especially in the course of the development of the orthotropic roadway slab as well as the execution of highly utilized welded joints, the resulting effects on fatigue resistance in connection with steadily increasing traffic loads were initially underestimated. For this reason, there is a large number of steel bridges that are not sufficiently fatigue-resistant and whose stability and future viability must also be evaluated with regard to resource-optimised maintenance management. Using the example of a tied arch bridge with a suspended orthotropic deck, different methods for evaluating the fatigue resistance of existing steel bridges are presented and discussed. Special emphasis is put on practical applicability in the course of a bridge reassessment. |
