Title:	Wilhelm Rudolf Kutter - Portrait eines Wasserbauingenieurs
Abstract:	Beim Studium historischer Erläuterungsberichte, wie bspw. zum Bau des Erfurter Flutgrabens in den Jahren 1890-1898, stößt man immer wieder auf die sog. “Kuttersche Formel” und damit auf die Frage, wer eigentlich der Namensgeber dieser hydraulischen Abflussformel war. In den allgemeinen, frei zugänglichen Quellen findet man hierzu nur begrenzte Hinweise, welche im Wesentlichen den wissenschaftlich-technischen Hintergrund erläutern. Unterzieht man sich aber der Mühe, die familiären Beziehungen über vier Generationen hinweg zu recherchieren, und hat man dabei noch das Glück, mit Samuel Kutter einen promovierten Physiker als Ururenkel zu finden, so kann man auch heute noch ein beeindruckendes Portrait von Wilhelm Rudolf Kutter nachzeichnen. Wilhelm Rudolf Kutter - portrait of a hydraulic engineer When studying historical explanatory reports, such as the construction of the Erfurt flood ditch between 1890 and 1898, one repeatedly comes across the so-called “Kuttersche Formula” and thus the question of who actually gave this hydraulic discharge formula its name. In the general, freely accessible sources, there are only limited references to this, which essentially explain the scientific and technical background. But if you take the effort to research family relationships over four generations and if you are lucky enough to find a doctorate in physics as a great-great-grandson in Samuel Kutter, you can still trace an impressive portrait of Wilhelm Rudolf Kutter today.
