Title: | Die Orthoverbundplatte - Aktuelles aus Praxis und Forschung |
The ortho-composite-slab - practical experience and scientific progress The self-weight of the roadway slab is a very important issue for the design of wide-span bridges. Orthotropic decks are light, but very vulnerable to fatigue. Hence, orthotropic decks are planned very rarely nowadays. Reinforced concrete slabs on composite bridges are robust, but too heavy for large spans. The ortho-composite slab combines the advantages of orthotropic decks and concrete decks in a most favorable way. The general principle of lightweight composite slabs exists from the 1930s and has been successfully used on several wide-span bridges. The ortho-composite-slab is a combination of an orthotropic steel deck and a reinforced concrete slab in composite action. It unites the best out of both construction types. It is light, yet robust, durable and fatigue resistant. It can be built speedy, precise and economically, due to its high level of pre-fabrication. The ortho-composite-slab is less vulnerable to thermic loads such as black ice and hot pouring of asphalt. |
