Abstract:	In der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts entwickelte sich neben vielen anderen Bauweisen der Holzhausbau vom traditionellen Blockhaus- und Fachwerkbau zu den vielfältigen Sparbauweisen des Holztafel- und Gerippebaus, aus denen viele der heutigen Fertighauskonstruktionen hervorgegangen sind. Ökonomische und politische Zwänge führten zwischen 1935 und 1950 zu einer überproportionalen Entwicklung und Perfektionierung des Barackenbaus, die trotz aller Mängel viele Ansätze für ein sparsames Bauen und eine rationelle (Vor)fertigung bieten.
