Abstract:	Die Sloboda-Brücke in Novi Sad war zum Zeitpunkt der Planung eine der weltweit größten Schrägseilbrücken mit einer freien Spannweite von 351 m zwischen den Pylonen und einer Seilebene. Anfang April 1999 wurde sie bei einem NATO-Luftangriff von zwei Thomahawks jeweils am Pylonfußpunkt getroffen und dabei teilweise zerstört. Da die zerstörte Brücke eine der größten internationalen Wasserstraßen Europas gesperrt hat, bestand die dringende Notwendigkeit, die Brücke aus der Donau zu räumen und wieder aufzubauen, um den ungehinderten Schiffsverkehr zu ermöglichen.
