Abstract:	Das Beben ereignete sich am 17. Januar 1995 um 17.46 Uhr Ortszeit. Es wurde in der Nojyama-Falte ausgelöst, sein Epizentrum lag im Norden der Awaji-Insel, und es hatte eine Stärke von 7,2. Es verursachte große Schäden im Norden der Awaji-Insel und in den Städten Kobe, Ashiya, Nishinomiya, Takarazuka und Itami. Nach dem Erdbeben besuchte der Verfasser vom 22.bis 24. Januar die Städte Kobe, Ashiya und Nishinomiya, um speziell Schäden an Häusern und Gebäuden festzustellen. Sein Hauptinteresse galt dabei Stahlskelettbauten, besonders solchen, an denen das Verhalten von Stahl im Vergleich mit anderen Bauarten, vor allem bei den Stützen, festgestellt werden konnte. Der Aufsatz berichtet über den Verlauf des Bebens und über die Untersuchungsergebnisse.
