Abstract:	The Austrian Society for Geomechanics has published a guideline for the geotechnical design for underground structures with conventional excavation in 2001, which was revised in 2008. The guideline clearly focuses on the observational approach due to the uncertainties in the ground model and ground parameters in the design stage. In this paper the requirements stipulated in the Eurocode regarding the observational method are compared to the respective formulations in the guideline. Die Österreichische Gesellschaft für Geomechanik hat 2001 erstmals eine Richtlinie für die geotechnische Planung von Untertagebauten mit konventionellem Vortrieb herausgegeben, die 2008 nach Überarbeitung neu aufgelegt wurde. Die Richtlinie konzentriert sich wegen der vielen Unsicherheiten im Baugrundmodell und den Baugrundeigenschaften klar auf die Beobachtungsmethode. Die Anforderungen im Eurocode 7 bezüglich der Beobachtungsmethode werden in diesem Beitrag den Ausführungen in der ÖGG-Richtlinie gegenübergestellt.
