Abstract:	Freileitungsmaste aus Stahl - traditionell in Deutschland als geschraubte oder genietete Gittermastkonstruktionen mit einfachen Profilformen und Verbindungen ausgeführt - gehörten einst zu den Sinnbildern technischer Erschließung und Sicherung des nationalen Wohlstandes. Heute werden Freileitungsmaste eher als Belastung der natürlichen Ressourcen und Einschränkung der Freiräume betrachtet. Im Vorfeld neuer Trassen-Planungen wurden bereits massive Proteste der betroffenen Bürger gegen den Bau von Freileitungen formuliert. Im Zuge der Energiewende ist es daher von elementarer Bedeutung, das Image der Freileitungen als einen notwendigen und akzeptierten Teil unserer industriellen Gesellschaft zu verbessern. Zugleich sollte das große Potential des modernen Stahlbaus und moderner Stähle auch beim Freileitungsbau gewinnbringend ausgeschöpft werden können und diesen Markt für eine große Zahl an Stahlbaufirmen öffnen. Dies kann nur gelingen, wenn für Entwurf und Konstruktion von Freileitungsmasten aus Stahl neben modernen Produktions-, Fertigungs- und Ausführungstechnologien sowie wirtschaftlichen Aspekten insbesondere auch gestalterische Betrachtungen berücksichtigt werden. Folgerichtig wird das Forschungsprojekt interdisziplinär von Ingenieuren und Architekten bearbeitet. Ziel ist es, einen neuen Freileitungs-Masttyp aus Stahl zu entwickeln, der neben technisch und wirtschaftlich höchsten Anforderungen in seiner Gestalt eine neue Zeit, die Zeit der Energiewende der Bundesrepublik Deutschland symbolisiert. Overhead line tower for the turnaround in energy policy - architectural, technical and economic aspects. In Germany, overhead line towers in steel are traditionally constructed as lattice towers still using simple construction steel materials, angle profiles, bolted joints or even rivet connections. Lattice towers represent technical progress and national affluence for a long time, but this view has changed completely. Currently, overhead line towers are condemned with regard to aesthetic and the impact on man and environment. The German turnaround in energy policy is already accompanied by strong public protests. On the other hand, most German steel manufacturer are no more specialized in planning and building lattice tower constructions. In the course of the energy turnaround it is therefore essential to change the recent negative image of overhead line towers into an accepted and urgently required part of a modern industrial society. Moreover, the potential of modern steel and sophisticated steel constructions should be introduced into the construction of overhead line towers. This will only be successful, is the design and construction of overhead line tower in steel includes modern steel production, manufacturing and erecting technologies combined with economy and architectural requirements. Consequently, steel engineers and architects will cooperate in this interdisciplinary research project. The research target is to develop a new steel construction of overhead line towers, which achieves highest technical, economic and aesthetic quality and thus, will support as well as symbolize the change in energy policy in Germany.
