Abstract:	Das Bauingenieurstudium als akademische Ausbildung gibt es erst seit etwa 150 Jahren. Der Aufsatz behandelt die Entwicklung der Technischen Hochschulen in Deutschland, wobei besonders die Veränderungen der Lehrinhalte seit dem 2. Weltkrieg im Vordergrund stehen. Im letzten Teil werden die Arbeitsbedingungen für Ingenieure in der Europäischen Union dargestellt. Der Autor, 1954 bis 1992 in der Bauindustrie tätig, war viele Jahre mit Nachwuchsfragen sowohl im Fakultätentag für Bauingenieur- und Vermessungswesen als auch in großen Bauunternehmen befaßt, hat seit 1977 einen Lehrauftrag an der Universität Karlsruhe inne und war darüber hinaus Mitglied der überregionalen Studiumreformkommission Bauingenieurwesen.
