Bei Kurven in Seilbahntrassen kommt es bei der Fahrt des Laufwerks sowohl zu einer horizontalen als auch zu einer vertikalen Seilauslenkung. Für Dreiseilbahnen (3S-Bahnen) mit zwei Tragseilen als Fahrbahn für die Kabine und einem Zugseil entwickelte die Firma Doppelmayr Seilbahnen eine Kurvenstütze, bei der die Seilschuhe eine horizontale und eine vertikale Winkelablenkung des Zugseils bei der Fahrt über die dreidimensionale - also um zwei Achsen gekrümmte - Kurve ermöglichen. Diese Konstruktion wurde erstmals bei der Penkenbahn in Mayrhofen im Zillertal realisiert.

When ropeway alignments incorporate curves, the rope is deflected in both the horizontal and vertical planes as the carriage passes over the respective section of the line. In the case of tricable (3S) ropeways with two track ropes along which the cabin travels and one haul rope, Doppelmayr developed a curve tower, where the rope saddles enable a horizontal and a vertical angular deflection of the haul rope as the carriage travels over the three-dimensional curve - i. e. with curvature about two axes. This construction was implemented for the first time on the Penkenbahn in Mayrhofen, Zillertal (Austria).
