Abstract:	In rock formations prone to karstification, there are no or only limited geological/hydrological principles that enable safe prognosis of the existence and location of karst and fault structures. The application of geophysical methods offers a high efficiency of detection and localisation of faults, cavities and karst structures, and when combined with targeted verification drillings, provides an extensive three-dimensional structural investigation of rock formations. Four examples of geophysical karst and fault investigations in German tunnelling are presented here to demonstrate the innovative technologies and their respective survey results that in all cases contributed to a safe excavation process and later operation of the tunnels. In verkarstungsfähigen Gesteinsformationenexistieren keine oder nur eingeschränkt gültige geologisch-hydrologische Gesetzmäßigkeiten, die eine sichere Prognose der Existenz und räumlichen Lage von Karst- und Störungsstrukturen ermöglichen. Daher kann bei der Karst-, Störungs- und Hohlraumerkundung im Tunnelbau die Geophysik mit hoher Effizienz zur Prospektion eingesetzt werden, da sie, in Kombination mit einer gezielten bohrtechnischen Aufschlusserkundung, eine umfassende räumliche Strukturerkundung der Gesteinsformationen ermöglicht. Anhand von vier Beispielen der geophysikalischen Karst- und Störungserkundung im deutschen Tunnelbau werden die an die jeweilige Aufgabenstellung adaptierten innovativen Messtechnologien vorgestellt und mit konkreten Ergebnissen untersetzt, die in allen Fällen wesentlich zu einem gesicherten Vortrieb sowie zu einer sicheren Betriebsphase der Tunnel beigetragen haben.
