Title: | Brandschutztechnische Risikobewertung von Onshore-Windenergieanlagen |
Fire risk assessment of onshore wind turbines. Fires of wind turbines often cause a negative perception of modern turbines. This can also be noticed in the public discussions on wind energy. The different arguments in these discussions were looked at closer within a master thesis. This article presents the main results of the thesis. Among these, a statistic on fires in wind turbines between 2005 and 2016, including an analysis of the causes of fire, occurred damage and fire fighting measures. Also, the results of a survey among fire departments, which have had a mission due to a fire of a wind turbine, are presented. The topics of this survey included e. g. causes of fire, extinguishing measures, fire water supply, radiuses for barriers and falling down debris. Hereby, practical experiences are compared to theoretical aspects. Basic principles for fire safety concepts for wind turbines follow from these results. By means of active fire protection, technical solutions and consistent standards for fire safety measures, the risk of danger due to a burning wind turbine can be minimized. |
