Abstract:	Mit 803 m Länge ist die Rheinbrücke Emmerich nicht nur die längste Hängebrücke in Deutschland, sondern weist mit 500 m auch die größte Stützweite aller Brücken hierzulande auf. Doch nicht nur deswegen ist diese von HELLMUT HOMBERG entworfene Brücke eine Ikone des deutschen Stahlbaus des 20. Jh., markiert sie doch gleichermaßen den nationalen technischen Höhepunkt dieser Brückenkategorie. Aufgrund zum Großteil alterungsbedingter Schäden sind heute umfangreiche Instandsetzungsarbeiten erforderlich, doch vorangestellt wurde eine umfassende Nachrechnung des Bestandsbauwerks, um die Wirtschaftlichkeit dieser Maßnahmen im Vorhinein bewerten zu können. Eine Besonderheit hierbei war, dass die Nachrechnung zusätzlich durch Untersuchungen und Probeinstandsetzungen am Bauwerk unterstützt wurde. Rehabilitation planning of the Rhine Bridge Emmerich With a length of 803 m the Rhine bridge Emmerich is not only the longest suspension bridge in Germany, but with its 500 m main span also the one with the longest span. This is not the only reason this bridge designed by HELLMUT HOMBERG has become an icon of German steel constructions of the 20th century, as it also describes the technological peak of suspension bridges in Germany. Because of its age of more than 50 years several maintenance operations are necessary. But before that a thorough recalculation had to be carried out to determine if the whole operation can be economically justified. The recalculation was supported by additional inspections of the structure and also a sample reinstatement of the corrosion protection of the main cable.
