Abstract:	Um die Funktionalität von Verkehrswegen dauerhaft zu gewährleisten, bedarf es fortwährender Erhaltung, Anpassung und Weiterentwicklung. Bei den Bundesfernstraßen hat für diese Prozesse eine Phase mit besonderer Dynamik begonnen. Hierfür gibt es mehrere Ursachen, die letztlich zum Finanzhochlauf für die Infrastruktur der Bundesfernstraßen geführt haben. Insbesondere für den Brückenbau ergeben sich dadurch neue Herausforderungen und Chancen. Wenngleich einige Punkte Bauweisen übergreifend Gültigkeit besitzen, erfolgt die Betrachtung aus der Perspektive des Stahl- und Verbundbrückenbaus. Current challenges and future developments for bridge constructions in the federal highway network. In order to keep traffic routes working continuous maintenance, adaptations and developments are required. Regarding federal highways these processes have reached an extraordinary dynamic stage. There are several reasons that finally led to a significant increase of financial resources for federal highway infrastructure. Challenges and opportunities arise particularly in the field of bridge engineering. Although several points apply independent from the construction type, assessments are derived from the perspective of steel and composite bridge engineering.
