Abstract:	Seit der Geburtsstunde des modernen Hochhauses im Chicago der 1880er-Jahre ist dieser Bautypus eine Domäne des Stahlbaus. Gemeinsam mit der Erfindung einer Sicherheitsfangtechnik für Aufzüge hat die industrielle Stahlproduktion den Wettlauf in die Höhe angefacht und in immer neue Dimensionen getrieben. Betrachtet man vor diesem Hintergrund die aktuellen Entwicklungen im Hochhausbau - noch bis zum 3. März 2019 sehr anschaulich und informativ präsentiert in der Ausstellung zum Hochhaus Preis 2018/19 im Deutschen Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt am Main -, lässt sich ein deutlicher Wandel ablesen. Zunehmend verwenden Ingenieure und Architekten neben Stahl auch Beton - und das nicht nur im Verborgenen für das Tragwerk, sondern auch offen sichtbar in der Fassade. Einen Überblick über aktuelle Tendenzen bieten die fünf ausgestellten Wolkenkratzer der engeren Wahl. Together with the invention of a safety technology for elevators, industrial steel production has fueled the race and pushed it into ever new dimensions. Looking at this background, the current developments in high-rise construction - very clearly and informatively presented in the exhibition on the Highrise Award 2018/19 in the Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt am Main until March 3, 2019 - show a certain change. Increasingly, engineers and architects not only use steel but also concrete - and not only for the hidden structure but also in the façade. The five presented skyscrapers of the shortlist offer an overview of current trends.
