Title: | Numerische Untersuchungen einer energiedissipierenden Schutzvorrichtung gegen Schiffsanprall |
Abstract: | Herrn Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Numerical evaluation of novel crashworthy device for pier protection from barge impact Barge impact is a potential hazard threatening the safety of bridge structures located in navigation waterways. To avoid direct contact between a barge and a bridge pier in an impact event, different types of protective structures have been developed and used in many bridges. Such protective systems shall generally dissipate a large portion of energy during impact through plastic structural deformations, thus reducing the amount of energy absorbed by the barge or the bridge pier remarkably. This paper aims to numerically evaluate the mechanical behaviour of a novel crashworthy device with focus on developing effective strategies to limit plastic mechanisms within certain structural components whilst ensuring that others remain totally elastic during impact. This would greatly facilitate the restoration process of such devices after barge impact by replacing only those structural components where plastic deformations have occurred. Structural detailing of connections is not focused on and to be analyzed in later investigations. |
