Abstract:     
 
Aufgrund der gestiegenen Anforderungen aus der Schifffahrt sowie des absehbaren Endes der Nutzungsdauer des Schiffshebewerks in Scharnebeck ist der vorgezogene Ersatzneubau einer Schleuse am Elbe-Seitenkanal zur Engpassbeseitigung beabsichtigt. Die Schleuse soll mit einer nutzbaren Kammerlänge von 225 m auch für längere Schiffstypen und Verbände passierbar sein. Die enorme Hubhöhe von 38 m des nahezu freistehenden Bauwerks und die damit einhergehenden erheblichen Wasserdrücke sind mit herkömmlichen U-förmigen Tragsystemen nicht mehr beherrschbar und erfordern aus statischer und hydraulischer Sicht neue technische Lösungsansätze, die derzeit in Zusammenarbeit von der Bundesanstalt für Wasserbau (BAW) mit dem Neubauamt Hannover (NBA Hannover) erarbeitet werden.

Solution approaches for the new construction of the world's highest water-saving lock
Due to the increased demands of shipping and the expiring service life of the Scharnebeck ship lift, the early replacement by a navigation lock on the Elbe Lateral Canal is intended to remove the bottleneck. The chamber of the new lock will have a usable length of 225 m, allowing longer types of ships and ship convoys to pass. Because of the enormous lift of 38 m of the nearly free standing structure, the corresponding significant water pressures are no longer manageable with conventional U-shaped bearing systems. From a static and hydraulic point of view new technical solutions are required, which are currently worked out in a cooperation between the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW) and the Federal Waterways and Construction Office Hannover (NBA Hannover).
