Zum Zeitpunkt ihrer Eröffnung Anfang der Sechzigerjahre war die Schiersteiner Brücke eine der am weitesten gespannten Stahlbalkenbrücken weltweit. Der Abbruch einer solchen Großbrücke ist eine besondere Herausforderung. In diesem Beitrag werden der Abbruch der 205 m weit gespannten Strombrücke sowie der Verbundbrücken der Schiersteiner Rheinbrücke beschrieben. Neben einer Beschreibung der alten Brückenkonstruktion von 1962 wird detailliert auf die Planung des Abbruchs und die Abbruchstatik für die Strombrücken und die Verbundbrücken des Brückenzugs eingegangen und es werden grundsätzliche Punkte zum Abbruch von Stahlbrücken zusammengetragen.

Demolition of the old bridge over the Rhine in Wiesbaden-Schierstein
At the time of the opening in the beginning of the sixties the Schierstein bridge was one of the longest spanning steel beam bridges all over the world. The demolition of such a large bridge is a special challenge. This article describes the demolition of the 205 m spanned main bridge and of the composite bridges of the Schierstein bridge. Beside the specification of the old bridge structure of 1962, the article details the planning and structural calculation of the demolition of the main bridge and the composite bridges of the whole structure. Some fundamental points to the demolition of steel bridges are compiled.
