In Heilbronn steht das derzeit höchste Holzhochhaus Deutschlands: das zehngeschossige Holz-Hybrid-Gebäude namens Skaio. 34 m hoch und nach den Plänen des Berliner Architekturbüros Kaden+Lager gebaut, gehört es zur Stadtausstellung der Bundesgartenschau (BUGA) 2019. Sockelgeschoss und Treppenhauskern des von Züblin Timber nach dem Skelettbauprinzip errichteten Mischbaus bestehen aus Stahlbeton, die Stützen aus Brettschichtholz, ein Teil der Träger aus Stahlprofilen, für Wände und Decken hat man verschiedene Holzbauweisen genutzt, wie den Holzrahmenbau in Kombination mit Brettsperrholz für die Wandelemente bzw. Brettsperrholz als Holzmassivbauweise für die Deckenscheiben. Als Fassadenbekleidung kamen Leichtmetallplatten zum Einsatz. Insgesamt 5 685 m2 Bruttogeschossfläche verteilen sich auf zehn Stockwerke. Das Brandschutzkonzept ermöglichte es, die Gebäudehülle mit Holzelementen auszuführen.

Hybrid skyscraper sets new standards
Heilbronn is home to the new German height record holder in modern timber high-rise construction: the ten-storey timber hybrid building called Skaio. 34 m high and designed by the Berlin architecture firm Kaden+Lager, it is part of the city exhibition of the Federal Horticultural Show (BUGA) 2019. Built by Züblin Timber, the skeleton construction is a hybrid construction using various building materials. The basement floor and staircase core consist of reinforced concrete, the columns of glulam, a part of the beams are made from steel. For walls and ceilings different timber construction methods were used such as the timber frame construction in combination with cross laminated timber for the wall elements or cross laminated timber as solid timber construction method for the ceiling panels. Aluminium panels were used for the façade cladding. A total of 5,685 m2 gross floor area is spread over ten floors. The fire protection concept made it possible to construct the building shell with wooden elements.
