Bond behavior of subtractive machined CFRP rods in UHPC Reinforcing rods made of carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) have several advantages compared to conventional steel-reinforcement. Especially the high tensile strength of CFRP potentially allows savings in construction material. In addition, the high corrosion resistance of the reinforcement is advantageous regarding durability. The aim of the authors is to use CFRP reinforcement to construct filigree minerally bonded building components to lower the ecologic impact of concrete structures. However, to accurately predict the load bearing behaviour of such structural members, knowledge about the bond behaviour of the constituent materials is required. The authors are therefore currently investigating the bond of CFRP rods with different concrete types. In a first step the bond behaviour of subtractive machined CFRP rods with ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) was examined. The first part of this paper provides an overview of the topic of bond behaviour of fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) rods in concrete. Subsequently two series of pull-out tests using helically grooved CFRP rods in UHPC are described. The used materials, the test setup, the experimental procedure and the results are presented and discussed in detail. |
