Weathering dependent disintegration and softening processes of weak claystones Weak rocks can lose their strength within a short period of time when dried out and rewetted. In a laboratory study a new method for the classification of the disintegration behaviour of weak rocks was developed, which allows an unambiguous determination of the disintegration potential. In addition, it was investigated in more detail which rock properties influence the disintegration tendency of the rocks. It was found that the natural weathering condition strongly influences the disintegration tendency. The reason for this is a sulphate content decreasing with weathering and an increasing content of interaggregate pores. |
