Modified notch functions for a welded detail of a through-bridge In a previous paper, the notch tension concept was presented as an appropriate tool for the fatigue verification of a welded detail occurring in single-track railway through bridge with a 120 mm thick steel deck-plate. The basics for the computation of the notch stresses using a finite element program were argued and the merging of single results to functions was described. To illustrate the procedure, the notch function was derived in detail for one of nine critical spots (six at the upper weld, three at the lower weld). In this paper, the remaining notch functions for the upper weld are derived considering the interaction of sectional forces. The practical application of the derived formulae is explained by a numerical example. Controlling item for the welds is the fatigue verification for the longitudinal carrying action. Finally, hints referring to the throat depths are given. |
