Herrn Dipl.-Ing. Wolfang Eilzer zur Vollendung des 65. Lebensjahres gewidmet.

Construction of the new Neckar River Bridge in Benningen
In the course of the new bypass around the community of Benningen, an elegantly curved new Neckar River bridge has been built over the past two years. In addition to its important function of reducing the traffic load in Benningen, the 195 m long steel composite bridge forms a structurally defining structure that blends harmoniously into the surroundings of the vineyards on the Neckar loop. The low-maintenance, semi-integral structure has a complex geometry due to its double-curved shape in plan and elevation, as well as other special features in the design of the details. Particular mention should be made of the flexible foundations in the area of the river piers, the monolithic connection of the stub piers to the inclined posts made of hollow steel box cross-sections and the design of the strikingly designed frame corners. The following reports on the resulting challenges and solutions in planning and construction.
