Abstract:	Die im Jahre 1968 erbaute Brücke Viersener Straße liegt im innerstädtischen Bereich von Mönchengladbach und überführt die B 57 (Hermann-Piecq-Anlage). Aufgrund von Tragfähigkeitsdefiziten des Spannbetonüberbaus mit einhergehenden verkehrlichen Einschränkungen der Viersener Straße war eine Erneuerung des Überbaus unabdingbar. Neben den gängigen Varianten von einer Ertüchtigung der Brückenkonstruktion bis hin zur Kompletterneuerung wurden hier zudem neue Wege begangen und auch eine Teilerneuerung - Ersatzüberbau mit Weiternutzung der Unterbauten - untersucht. Der neue Überbau, auf alten Unterbauten, sichert heute den innerstädtischen Verkehrsfluss. Does everything always have to be new? Partial renewal of the bridge Viersener Straße The bridge, built in 1968, is located in the inner-city of Mönchengladbach and crosses the B 57 (Hermann-Piecq-Anlage). Due to load capacity deficiencies of the prestressed concrete superstructure, a short-term replacement was required. In addition to the common method of strengthening the prestressed concrete superstructure and a complete renewal, a partial renewal - replacement superstructure with further use of the substructure - was analyzed. Today, the new superstructure, on top of the old substructure, secures the inner-city traffic flow.
