Abstract:

Realization of the new AirportAcademy on the LabCampus at Munich airport
As a general contractor, Ed. Züblin AG is planning and executing for the LabCampus GmbH the new training center AirportAcademy, which is part of the LabCampus innovation hub on the Munich Airport site. Especially the external two-story concrete truss poses a significant challenge in terms of structural engineering. Inspired by the distinctive shape of Munich Airport's runway & taxiway, the structure is designed without expansion joints. In combination with the laterally connected steel-composite beams and the rising concrete façade pillars, the concrete truss functions as part of the superstructure by supporting the floors above. Regarding the fulfilling of demands for an even and seamless appearance of the see-through external supporting structure, the combination of a unique structural design and the presence of highly stressed nodes poses a significant challenge to the formwork and exemplifies the complexity in concrete construction.
