Constructing with large components of infra-lightweight concrete (ILC) - three constructive design options for multi-story housing
In contrast to other insulating concretes, due to its strength, it is possible to build multi-story housing with Infra-Lightweight Concrete (ILC). Since the material simultaneously supports and insulates, complicated (structural) design interfaces are eliminated. It thus offers a monolithic alternative to building with external thermal insulation composite systems. Large components made of this material have the advantage that the proportion of joints can be minimized, which reduces the costs of joining and assembly. In the following the DBU funded project ILVO (prefabrication of large components of ILC) is introduced, and the developed concept explained. A connection to the history of building with prefabricated elements of concrete in the 1960s is drawn - role models and references that have accompanied the development of variations, are introduced. For every variation a historic reference, the concept, the element, and the construction are explained.
