Title:	Vier Bauingenieure der Berliner Bauakademie
Abstract:	In der Öffentlichkeit ist die 1799 gegründete und mit der Gewerbeakademie 1879 zur TH Berlin-Charlottenburg (heute: TU Berlin) vereinigte Berliner Bauakademie als Lehrstätte für Architekten bekannt. Das liegt nicht zuletzt darin begründet, dass sie mit Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) verbunden wird, der den Klassizismus Preußens prägte und mit seinem 1836 fertiggestellten Akademiegebäude eines ihrer Leitbauwerke schuf. Gleichwohl wohnte der Bauakademie eine unentdeckte Dimension inne, die als Genius Loci der sich verwissenschaftlichenden Bauingenieurkunst des 19. Jahrhunderts bezeichnet werden kann. Am Beispiel der Bauakademiker Johann Albert Eytelwein (1764-1849), Gotthilf Hagen (1797-1884), Johann Wilhelm Schwedler (1823-1894) und James Hobrecht (1825-1902) soll dieser folgenreiche Prozess der Trennung der Baukunst in Architektur und Bauingenieurwissenschaften konkretisiert und darüber hinaus die enge Verbundenheit mit dem Verlag Ernst & Korn (heute: Ernst & Sohn) aufgezeigt werden. Four civil engineers from the Berlin Building Academy For the public, the Berlin Building Academy, founded in 1799 and merged with the Royal Academy of Industry in 1879 to form Berlin-Charlottenburg Technical University (now TU Berlin), is known as a college for architects. One reason for this is that it is linked with Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841), who influenced the classicism of Prussia and in the shape of the academy building completed in 1836, created one of that movement's most prominent structures. Nevertheless, the Building Academy was also home to an undiscovered dimension that can be described as the spirit presiding over the scientization of civil engineering in the 19th century. Four engineers associated with the academy - Johann Albert Eytelwein (1764-1849), Gotthilf Hagen (1797-1884), Johann Wilhelm Schwedler (1823-1894) and James Hobrecht (1825-1902) - have been selected to demonstrate the serious consequences of separating architecture from engineering. The close ties with the publisher Ernst & Korn (now Ernst & Sohn) will also be shown.
