Chloride redistribution in cracked and with W-Cl repaired reinforced concrete structures The application of a surface protection system to avoid corrosion in frequented reinforced concrete structures, has been used for many years as a part of the repair method 8.3 (W-Cl). The effectiveness of this repair method is still not clearly established, since both the course of the corrosion mechanisms and the chloride redistribution as a result of the coating have not been clearly determined. Thus, the focus of the present work tackles three-dimensional, time-dependent recording of chloride redistribution after three months of intermittent de-icing salt contamination of reinforced, cracked concrete beams and subsequent surface coating. A total of 160 chloride profiles have been collected over a period of 1.5 years. The test matrix included both bending and transverse cracks as well as CEM I and CEM III concretes. The depth-dependent chloride contents determined from drilling dust sampling of blind profiles used in construction practice were confirmed by the chloride contents of the profiles along the subsequently opened crack flanks. In addition, perpendicular to the crack flank, no significant influence of the interface between concrete and reinforcement could be identified as a favoring or limiting factor compared to plain concrete. Most of the profiles still showed chloride contents above 0.5 M.-%/c. in the immediate vicinity of the crack at the end of the investigation period of 1.5 years. From this point of view corrosion activity still cannot be excluded entirely. |
