Abstract:	Als Teil des gerade errichteten Sony-Centers am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin erforderte die Integration des im 2. Weltkrieg weitgehend zerstörten Hotels Esplanade in das neue architektonische Ensemble dessen Überbauung durch eine 7geschossige, über 60 m spannende und etwa 11000 t schwere Brückenkonstruktion. Die renovierten denkmalgeschützten Teile des Hotel Esplanade werden hinter einer viergeschossigen seilverspannten Glasfassade wie ein Schmuckstück in einer Vitrine gezeigt. Sichtbare, vor den Fassaden liegende Fachwerke aus Stahl sind das Wahrzeichen des neuen Gebäudes und legen die Funktion des Tragwerkes offen. Die ursprüngliche Bauaufgabe erforderte bei der Berechnung, Konstruktion und Ausführung zahlreiche ungewöhnliche Lösungen.
