Schulen- und Kindertagesstätten 2011 - Ernst & Sohn special issue

In his editorial to the third edition of the special issue “Schools and childcare centres”, Wolf-Emanuel Linsenhoff from the architectural practice Fromme + Linsenhoff pleads for an “independent examination of the demands placed on the school’s built environment, the so-called third teacher” (after the other children and the tutor).

Schools and childcare centres Germany’s second package of measures to revive the economy has expired, but the building of new schools and children’s daycare facilities plus refurbishment, conversion and extension projects for existing buildings are still vital tasks for local authorities and private bodies. The third edition of this special issue contains detailed reviews of many projects; further themes are mobile room systems, modular construction, building envelopes, energy-efficient design, fire protection, fitting-out, lighting, safety, floor systems, room acoustics and hygienic interior air.
