Steel Construction Issue 04/2014

Cover Story: The sculptural shape of the free-form canopy “Carioca Wave”́ is inspired by the dynamic movement of the water at the impressive seaside of Barra di Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

The structure with a surface area of approximately 1,130m² is composed of a triangular steel grid consisting of grade S355 welded steel RHP 200×80mm profiles with constant web (6mm) and variable flange thicknesses.
