Currently, the most important concepts for the CO2-free generation of energy are based on natural wind power and the sun's rays. If we concentrate on the latter, we need to distinguish between solar thermal energy and the direct conversion of photons in electrical charges, photovoltaics. In solar-thermal power plants a medium is heated by the sun, which in turn either directly or indirectly drives the generators via a heat exchanger. Taking individually, we further differentiate between the following solar-thermal concepts: Parabolic trough, linear fresnel, solar tower and parabolic dish power plants.
