Herbert Kupfer - 85th Birthday

During the course of his multifaceted work and craft, Herbert Kupfer's activities have been illuminated in various ways. On previous occasions colleagues and peers took the chance to laud, while this time one of his students took the chance to praise his teacher.

As a boss with a sharp mind he often demanded much but encouraged just as well. Herbert Kupfer never kept his expertise to himself but always willingly shared it. Working with him on publications – for example on his contribution to the Concrete Yearbook on the design of prestressed concrete members – was exhausting but also enlightening. His uncanny ability to solve even complex problems by hand on just a few pages of paper in good approximation always proved fascinating.

In representation of numerous former students, Jürgen Feix took on the task for the current issue of Beton- und Stahlbeton.
