Technical standards such as norms and technical regulations are drawn up for applying and implementing government requirements. To this end, regular use is made of experts from private institutions, including the Deutsche Vereinigung für Wasserwirtschaft, Abwasser und Abfall e. V. (DWA), Verein deutscher Ingenieure (VDI), Deutsche Institut für Normung e. V. (DIN), Deutsche Vereinigung des Gas- und Wasserfaches e. V. (DVGW) as well as the Verband deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e. V. (VDMA).
